The Third Dimension

More Layers (10/28/13)

In this test I've created more layers to give the illusion of depth. Also because I know that if I imported my animation as image sequence it will come in as one layer and the change of depth in the animation will not occur. So I imported the animation as images and offset them frame by frame along the Z axis. As a result, the scene somewhat works, the bigger problem seems to be the ghosting (still), so probably I need to adjust the camera more carefully.

Getting 3D-ier (10/23/13)

Another short animation test.

For the past few works I do notice that the 2D conversion in After Effects, though creates nice stereoscopic 3D, does not necessary give volume to the converted drawings. This does give an interesting aesthetic, kind of like looking through at a diorama scene, however, it is flat. So what I did here, at least just for the hill, is separating it into many different layers (decreasing in size as they get nearer to the camera) and offset there distance along the Z axis. The result create something that stand between being CGI 3D and hand-drawn, in which I think is a look that very much appeals to me. It's not a complicated or ground breaking method, just a twee bit tedious as I would have to cut my character or scene into many tiny layers (the more the better volume).

Exploding Toast, in 3D!

More Blobs (10/17/13)

Some more blobs test in black and white for better 3D viewing. In this one I composed three layers of the mountains in front of each other in hope to create more volume. The outcome doesn't seem to create much significant volume-wise, possibly I need more layers or might just have to create my shot with actual 3D generated objects from Maya.

Let's Begin (10/16/2013)

This section will be dedicated to my exploration in 3D stereoscopic conversions.
I have started some weeks ago, playing mainly with after effects 3D camera plugin. This program is incredible.

I recycled my old flash animations as they are already divided into layers with alpha channels, easy for 3D conversions. Basically I just brought them in to after effects on separated layers and turned 3D on for all the layers. Before doing anything else I created a two-node camera so I can work with the right active camera view on without having to worry that the composition that I made will be different after adding a new camera. I then adjust the distance for each of the layers along the Z axis and once I'm happy I went to the camera and order "Create Stereo 3D Rig".

And it's all in the adjustment of the 3D effect. Insofar anaglyph 3D is my main platform as it is the only one that I can view on my computer. It's great for viewing 3D but of course, the color is way off.

Thus far, these are the results.
